The Painting Rooms, 1-5 Flitcroft St, London, WC2H 8DH
“LVH Art is pleased to present Urban Dwellers, a group exhibition that reactivates one of London’s most atmospheric and historic landmarks. Set within the industrial rooms of 1-5 Flitcroft St in London’s Westend, the exhibition reclaims the site — formerly devoted to theatre set painting — as a stage for contemporary art, where the energy of urban life is reflected upon on and reimagined. Drawing on the building’s distinctive architecture, the exhibition is presented in a Salon-style hang that embraces the space’s scale and texture.
Bringing together works by leading emerging artists from major cities across the globe, the presented works capture the textures and rhythms of urban life. From quiet moments of solitude to the ecstatic pulse of a crowded nightclub or the simple poetry of a brick-lined street, Urban Dwellers reflects the manifold ways in which urban environments shape our inner and outer worlds. The show draws inspiration from Martin Wong’s iconic quote, “Everything I paint is within four blocks of where I live, and the people are the people I know and see all the time.” In this spirit, Urban Dwellers invites viewers to consider the city as both subject and collaborator, a shared stage where lived experience, identity, and imagination collide.”
